A PEOPLE'S LEGACY
Romanian Folk Life through Dress, Textiles and Arts
March 15 through November 15, 2006
Despite a century of political turmoil, the beauty and spirit of
Romanian folk art has survived. Today over ninety areas of distinct
folk cultures exist — a blend of native expression and influence
from a diverse group of people including Romans, Saxons, Turks,
Armenians, Bulgarians, Hungarians and Ukrainians. This exhibition
features colorful traditional costumes and folk art from the
Museum's comprehensive permanent collection and is complemented by
objects from the Henry Art Gallery, University of Washington in
Seattle; Kent State University Museum in Kent, Ohio; Duquesne
University Tamburitzans, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; Yakima Valley
Museum in Yakima, Washington; The Fort Dalles Museum in The Dalles,
Oregon; and Frances Connolly of The Dalles.
