BADLY BATTERED UNION RETREATS
Attacking with sudden fury, the South was able to push back the enemy at Chancellorsville, today. General Lee & General Jackson led their men to an overwhelming victory as they caught the Northern Army off guard. The North's General Hooker believed that the Confederates were pulling back because they were outnumbered. Despite the fact that the Union had 20,000 more men, the South had the element of surprise working for them when they struck their deathblow. The fighting was reckless and the Union fought poorly as they tried to return the attack. The Union found themselves falling back time after time to a new position. It was the Southern Army which was on the offensive as the Federal soldiers appeared completely helpless.
